What are the odds that.. (agoraphobia)?

Question: What are the odds that.. (agoraphobia)?

That after a year of therapy and Paxil my agoraphobia will go away for good? And after I taper off of Paxil will it come back? I am kind of scared of the Paxil but I have already started it. I'm a week into this. Any advice?? Has anyone been through something similar? Should I get off of the Paxil while I still can? I havr heard too many awful thinks about SSRIs

The therapy should help you to know how to handle it on your own in time and you won't need the medication (in most cases), it might still be a little bit of a struggle but with the therapy you should be able to handle it and it won't overwhelm you again. PS ask your doctor about getting off the paxil now or later, or maybe even switching to a different type of medication with less possible side effects just to help with therapy for now, cause it is statistically proven that the best method is therapy plus medication until you are better

I'm an agoraphobic. I've taken paxil and had therapy and for a few years I was doing very well. Don't be afraid of the Paxil it works well but, it does take some time to start working. Everyone has different reactions to medication hopefully paxil will work as well for you as it did for me. Keep going to your appointments and stay on your medication for as long as you need to. I stopped taking it because I wanted to have a child. My panic attacks and anxiety didn't return for a few years after that. You can recover and as long as you keep doing the right things for yourself you should be fine.
