I'm afraid to ask my mom to set up the appointment(s).... She'll think it's a waste of time and money, and she'll think I'm being over dramatic. She'll also probably start worrying about me a lot, and I don't want that attention. My dad would think the same way. I always stay home or in a home unless I go out to be with my longtime friend (whom I trust very, very much). I withdraw from any and all social situations at school. I only have and want one person to talk to... who I can trust... won't judge me and won't be mean to me. I'm graduating from high school in 3 days so "go to the school counselor " can't help me anymore.... plus I wouldn't go to a school one anyway. That counselor would see me everyday and might tell other people what I'm going through and she might judge me. I think it's embarrassing how I'm just pouring out words that scream "symptom symptom symptom "

If you're in school talk to your counselour. If you're over 18 just go yourself. Also, what about your father or a grandparent? I would just ask her, maybe she'll react differently than you think, maybe she's noticed something wrong too. If she's a good mother she'll want to help you as best as she can.

Why not meet her half way, and call a mental health clinic in your area that has fees based on income, which could give you a better deal It sounds like your mom is caring and really nice and interested in you.......and that is a good thing......... unless this is a peer mirrored thing on your part just to get medications....... i hope you can trust your mom and be honest with her.............she sounds like a real support to you. and if you dont learn to speak up, you wont get very far in life....... you can remove 'phobias' with this eftuniverse.com why not find a mentor in areas of your interests and talk things out there, ask advise and guidance on how to succeed ....... best wishes

What do you understand under "social phobia " - do you stay home, do you withdraw, not leave the home? If that is the case perhaps you are suffereing from depression and need to see a specialist. This is something your Mom should have noticed. Is there a father in the family? Once you realize something is not right, it is time to seek outside help.

Social Phobia is serious and disrupts your life. There are safe medications that will help you with this. Talk to a school counselor and discuss with her your symptoms and how it is affecting your life. Also you can go to the site nami.org which is the site for the National Alliance on Mental Health. On their site you can find the phone number for your local chapter. They are there for support, information and they have the best referrals for help in your area. They can also help you with talking to your mother so that she will understand your need for help.
